Hello Summer

I'm not too sure where the month of June went, but now, here we are in the month of July! June was a busy month for both of us. Jeff worked a bit more than usual (almost every weekend), covering vacation time. I too worked a bit more than usual, allowing teachers to enjoy their "sick" days during the hot and humid weather. I did however get to enjoy not just a free trip to Marineland, but got paid to go and I recieved a free season's pass! Now, if only I knew of some kids to take!!

Before the big splash....

The big splash!

Follow up activity: Drawing their favorite part. Pretty good for Grade one!

Cape Breton
Just as we were both longing for summer in Cape Breton, we got an offer we couldn't refuse from Jeff's aunt and uncle in Sydney. It turned out that they purchased a boat in Ontario and they needed someone to haul it to Sydney for them. We jumped at that offer and got to spend a week in Cape Breton. We enjoyed every moment, as usual.

Here is a picture of the truck and boat we drove home.

Here's one of Jeff and Jack imagining what it would be like in the water.

We went to Point Michaud with the Shushan staff. They were surfing, we were watching, Ella was stuffing her face.

Amanda loves the beach! She spent some of the afternoon taking pictures.

We were out on Jack and Wendy's boat one evening, and got a few good pictures of Kyle and Corey on the sea biscuits.

Kyle and Corey

We visited with Rick & Danielle, Sarah & Jamin, and Kelly & Jonathan at Shushan. It was great to get together, like old times.

Maybe Margaret could be edited into a few of these pictures.

We couldn't agree on which of these shots are better, so here are both. Jeff doesn't like the one that is lighter because the flash reflected off the water and made lines on our shirts.

Jeff got to go out on a Lobster fishing boat while we were home. A friend of his uncle is a Lobster fisherman, and Jeff was happy to go out and watch birds (and lobster) for the day. Sunrise is early this time of year, but lobster fishing starts even earlier. Jeff had to be at the Louisbourg wharf at 3:30AM. They were hauling traps before the sun broke the horizon.

Jeff tossed his cookies right after these pictures. There was actually a problem with the trap hauler on the boat that day, so they had to go back into Louisbourg after hauling about 30 traps, get the hauler fixed, and take the 45 minute trip back out to haul the other 245 traps.

The gulls followed the boat in, waiting for the old bait to be thrown over the side.

The one on the left is a large market lobster, the one on the right is 'shack.'

Hauling a trap. Notice how calm the water was--and Jeff still barfed!

This is most of the day's catch--400lbs. Apparently, that is a bad day.

Jeff got home around 4PM, fell asleep at 5:30PM, and didn't get up until 5:30PM the next morning. Maybe it was a tiring day, and maybe he should have gotten more than 2 hours of sleep the night before.

We're heading back to Cape Breton in a couple of weeks, to take our normal summer trip. This first one was just a bonus. Hopefully we'll see lots of you there!
